SEASONS IN DEVON Whatever time of year you come here, you
will find lots of things to do. The climate of
Devon is well known for being more mild than most
of the rest of the country. In addition Torbay
with its close proximity to the sea and sheltered
location means that it seldom gets very cold and
allows our famous Torbay palms to flourish.
|
SPRING: Many flowers and plants
bud early due to the mild climate. If you want
a great time to come and see the wildlife, have
a lot more peace and quiet, then we reckon late
March/April are great and May we always think
has the best weather. This time of yearf you can
find much cheaper accommodation, although not
all attractions are open every day. |
|
SUMMER:
The most popular time of year for our visitors.
Traditionally one of the favourite UK destinations.
Everything is open, beaches are well tended and
ready for sandcastle building. As you can see
from ther picture however you can find secluded
coves and out of the way places. We reccommend
that you buy an Ordnance Survey map and check
these out. Restaurants, bars, fishing boats, ice
cream kiosks, The Zoo, Living Coasts, Steam Railway,
Model Village, Dartmoor, Exmoor, the list of things
to do is endless................... |
|
AUTUMN:
Many people think this is the best time of year
to visit Torbay. The kids are back at school which
means a bit more peace and quiet for those who
have "done the kids" thing. Still mild
and with Devon being more tree populated than
any other UK county, the dropping of leaves and
the collecting of conkers can be experienced across
the entire county. From end of the summer season
to Christmas the hotel rates drop drammatically
and most attractions stay open until October.
Autumn sees a lot of of our elderly visitors travelling
south! They all seem to enjoy it here.

|
WINTER: Although
it never gets that cold (or at least only very occasionally)
we do have the odd sprinkling of snow on Dartmoor.
The kids love sledding if this happens. Christmas
often sees visitors coming down to stay in their
favourite hotels and have a festive extravanganza.
Although the days are short, its a lovely time to
walk the empty beaches and do a bit of beachcombing.
If its rough with an easterly gale, you can also
do a bit of storm. We would recommend Meadfoot Beach
from "The
Balcony Apartment" |
