 If you are planning on staying in Devon or more specifically Torquay then you couldn't do better than choosing one of our great hotels or one of the the increasingly more popular holiday homes.

There has been a substantial change in recent years over the quality and availability of these holiday homes. Gone are the days of chintzy decor and fixed check in and check out days of 7 or 14 days only. For sure these still exist but in much smaller numbers, the vast majority however have much improved facilities and have a lot more flexibility on arrival and departure days and minimum stay. 2-3 days stays are now becoming more and more acceptable but have to be priced accordingly.

Holiday Homes are larger and more complex to clean and "turnaround"  than hotels and there is always a fixed cost.  If the holiday home is privately managed by the owners it is more labour costs than external costs that influence a clean, but use of an external cleaning team for absent owners means a fixed cost. This will average £100 including linen for a 2 bed house sleeping 4-6 people. A hotel room may be less than 20% of this and  this is one of factors that allows shorter stays.

So if a holiday home is £500 for week, for a 3 night stay, do not expect the price to be 3/7ths of the total. It is likely to be a on sliding scale. This said, two hotel rooms at £60 per room is £120 per night and over 3 nights, £360. The £500 holiday home, may be available at 60% of the weekly cost or £300. There is also likely to be more space and more facilities. You do have to make your own breakfast though.
