Brixham Pirates Festival 2017
There will be LOTS of pirates, military and period re-enactors here with guns to make plenty of noise! We will make sure there is plenty of music too with shanties and pirate rock to keep ye hoppin’. Buskers, jugglers and other entertainers will perform around the streets and harbour of Brixham. There will be other shows, reenactments and events around the town through the weekend.
The festival takes place throughout the town with main stage right next to the Golden Hind boat in the inner harbour. The family stage will be in the Central Car park area by the bus stop.
We aim to make the festival suitable for everyone and all ages. There will be events for the kids to watch and take part in like shows and street acts. Historical reenactments and plays during the day. Fancy dress competition for young children. Music to suit all tastes and more music in the (pirate filled) pubs in the evening. There will be GUNS & MUSIC so it might be LOUD!
Please dress up if you can, whatever you can manage will be fine even if it is just an eye-patch! There will be LOTS of pirates in costume right through the weekend so you will fit right in. We stay in costume in the evening too.
Brixham Heritage Sailing Regatta
27th – 28th May 2017
The Brixham Heritage Sailing Regatta has its roots in the Sailing Trawler races that have been held in Torbay since the early 1800’s. In 1914, King George V presented the Perpetual Challenge Cup also popularly known as the ‘King George V Cup’ or the ‘Kings Cup’, to be raced for by Brixham registered sailing trawlers over 40 tons. This was competed for annually from 1919 until 1939 when the war ended racing and sailing trawlers were rapidly being retired. Racing did not resume after the War, but the Brixham Heritage Sailing Regatta was revived by enthusiasts in 1997.
The dates for the 2017 Heritage Sailing Regatta are Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th May. Consequently, Regatta arrivals can be on the Friday or Saturday with the Fish Supper, Festivities and Fireworks on the Saturday evening and the Skippers Briefing, Regatta, Prize Giving, Raffle and possibly Live Music on the Sunday. It also leaves the Bank Holiday Monday free for crews to sail home. It will be a very similar proven format to 2016.
