Dart Music Festival ~ Dartmouth
In 2017, May 12, 13, & 14 ~ We Celebrate 20 Years
The Dart Music Festival was started nearly 20 years ago by Rob and Di Lyon of Dartmouth (now Mayor of Dartmouth). It is an annual music event over three days, which was thought of initially to help improve the length of the tourist season for the small riverside town of Dartmouth and its tourism based businesses.
We have over 100 acts performing in over 20 closely sited town venues. These include churches, arts centre, restaurants and hotels. Our main area (centred around wonderful gardens and bandstand) is next to the river’s edge, surrounded with cafes and bars. There are many open air street-based performances making for a constant buzz of enjoyment over all three days. Many of the musicians, both amateur and professional, are from the West Country but we strive to be inclusive and attract national and international acts.
We are a not-for-profit organisation and have formed a ‘Dart Music Foundation’ whereby young hopefuls can apply for grants to help with music lessons, equipment and other associated costs relating to their musical progression.

Brixham Heritage Sailing Regatta
27th – 28th May 2017
The Brixham Heritage Sailing Regatta has its roots in the Sailing Trawler races that have been held in Torbay since the early 1800’s. In 1914, King George V presented the Perpetual Challenge Cup also popularly known as the ‘King George V Cup’ or the ‘Kings Cup’, to be raced for by Brixham registered sailing trawlers over 40 tons. This was competed for annually from 1919 until 1939 when the war ended racing and sailing trawlers were rapidly being retired. Racing did not resume after the War, but the Brixham Heritage Sailing Regatta was revived by enthusiasts in 1997.
The dates for the 2017 Heritage Sailing Regatta are Saturday 27th and Sunday 28th May. Consequently, Regatta arrivals can be on the Friday or Saturday with the Fish Supper, Festivities and Fireworks on the Saturday evening and the Skippers Briefing, Regatta, Prize Giving, Raffle and possibly Live Music on the Sunday. It also leaves the Bank Holiday Monday free for crews to sail home. It will be a very similar proven format to 2016.

As Torbay’s only festival on a working farm, the foot-stomping line-up is yet to be confirmed.
To give you an idea, the 2016 line up included: Friday: Wille and the Bandits, Sound of the Sirens, Rich Cottell, Alex Hart, True Bass, and Saturday: Silent Alarm, MBP, Society Rocks, 3BF, Riviera Dogs and New Daze. With 100% of festival profits going to Torbay Coast & Countryside Trust, to protect the places we love – Berry Head, Ansteys Cove, Occombe Farm and Cockington – this festival offers good times that do good. Plenty of reasons to SAVE THE DATE, grab your pals, buy tickets (February 2017) and head down to the farm.
This quirky race is when Brixhams Modern working fishing fleet lets its hair down.
Skippers dress the boats with bunting and battle it out with two-lap race around the Bay and fun and festivities on the quayside all raising money for local charities.
The winner is not always the first across the line as there is a very strict handicapping system.
