Coleton Aglow @ Coleton Fishacre
Dec 1 @ 5:00 pm – Dec 31 @ 7:30 pm
Coleton Aglow @ Coleton Fishacre | Kingswear | England | United Kingdom

Coleton Aglow ~ Kingswear

Why not wrap up warm and explore the garden at Coleton Fishacre as it is aglow with festive light? The streams, beautiful trees and exotic features of the garden are lit for Christmas in spectacular fashion and the house is ready for a 1920s Christmas party this December.

The garden at night:
A walk through the garden during Coleton aglow truly delights. The route leads you between twinkling fairy lights down past the front of the house to the Rill Garden where the stream through the centre of the garden is filled with light and the colours of the summer recreated with uplighters. Down through the centre of the garden the ponds and trees are awash with warm and colourful light, and above your heads disco balls glitter. You’ll pass the Quarry where a giant cocktail glass spills champagne bubbles, reminiscent of the party taking place in the house. At the bottom of the garden you’ll reach the tree fern glade, before coming back up the garden to the summer house, where you can take a moment to admire the views across the route you’ve just walked and see the wave of lights cascade down Cathedral Bank.

This walk takes about 40 minutes, after which you can warm up in the gazebo with a mulled wine. There is also a short route which leads past the house to the gazebo and back, if you aren’t up for walking the entire route or you’re looking to avoid steps and steep hills. Dogs are welcome in the garden on short leads.

Christmas in the house:
The Christmas decorations this year have been inspired by a Christmas party which took place at Coleton Fishacre in 1929. The D’Oyly Carte family built Coleton Fishacre as their country home, and spent their time here relaxing and entertaining in style. When you visit the house you’ll see preparations underway for a glamourous 1920s Christmas party just waiting for the guests’ arrival. You’ll be able to try on your party outfit in the handling room, listen to party music playing in the Saloon and there’ll be parlour games in the Sitting Room such as Gilbert and Sullivan charades.

Dates, times and booking:
Coleton aglow is running on Fridays – Sundays from 1 to 17 December and Wednesdays – Sundays from 20 to 31 December. There are two time slots available to book for your visit: 5-6.30pm or 5.30-7pm.

Normal admissions apply for Coleton aglow, and entry is free for National Trust members and under-fives.

Booking is essential; please call 01803 842382 to book. Places are limited: when you book, you will be allocated a parking space. You will need to bring proof of booking with you to be granted admission to the car park.

Aladdin

Aladdin is the big fun, not-to-be missed pantomime at the Princess Theatre, Torquay this Christmas.

Sam Callaghan (X Factor) plays Aladdin, the son of a poor laundry owner. He falls in love with the Princess, daughter of the Empress of China, Anne Hegerty, (ITV’s The Chase) and must prove himself a worthy suitor.

Aladdin, finding a rusty old lamp, becomes master of the Genie inside but the Wicked Sorcerer, Evil Abanazar played by Tom Owen also wants the lamp.

Can Aladdin and his friends, including Luke Friend (X Factor) as the Genie of the Ring, outwit the baddie, keep the lamp, marry the Princess and live happily ever after?

You’ll have to come and see to be sure. Hop on a magic carpet and fly to a magical place of mystery and enchantment, where carpets fly, genies live and love conquers all.

Christmas Is Magical @ Babbacombe Theatre
Dec 13 2017 – Jan 1 2018 all-day

Babbacombe Theatre ~ Torquay

Christmas Is Magical

An enormous hit with the Babbacombe Theatre audiences, this past two years has been Steve Laister.phpthumb_generated_thumbnailjpgIt is great to have him back again with even more side-splitting original humour that will make you laugh louder than ever. He is joined on stage by other artistes instantly recognisable to Babbacombe Theatre regulars, including International Illusionist Daniel Dean, a master of his craft who will not only amaze you, but leave you in wonder, as you ponder, “how did he do that?” Additionally, we welcome back the delightful Lindsey Collard, a talented actress and singing sensation, the effervescent Wayne ‘Champagne’ Martin who is literally up for anything to generate a laugh. You may be familiar too with our troupe of sassy dancers, Danze Magique, who execute wonderfully the highly acclaimed dance routines set by our choreographer, Sadie Oliver, set to the musical arrangements of the Musical Director, Pete Leonard.

Glitz and glamour come in all guises in this show of festive fun, with Disney favourites, Moana & Maui, dashing cavaliers and a host of heavenly angels. Look out though for the international travellers raising ‘a glass’ or ‘twelve’ of cheer, as they enjoy; just a little bit too much, of the Christmas Spirit!

Inspirational lighting, costume design, choreography and musical arrangements are without exception the icing on the Christmas cake in Christmas is…Magical. After all, the theatre experience is never just about the performance.

Christmas wouldn’t be half as much fun without the obligatory ‘Singalong’ and this show promises some true yuletide favourites, with White Christmas, Drummer Boy, Jingle Bells & Santa Claus is Coming to Town. Albeit with some, movie masterpieces highlighted, as well as pop hits and comedic classics that feature the song writing talents of the late greats, Benny Hill and Victoria Wood, you are promised a bountiful punch of musical moments.
